8.1.9 Grammar explorer

Syntax diagrams are used elsewhere in this guide to explain the notation used to enter expressions. The grammar display supports interactive exploration of the syntax diagrams.

Recall that recursive transition network diagrams, the basis for Myron's syntax diagrams, reference other diagrams using symbols enclosed in rectangles. In the grammar display, such symbols provide an active link. Touching a symbol replaces the display with the diagram for that symbol. Like a web browser, next and previous controls navigate through a history of displayed diagrams.

Diagrams can also be “embedded” by replacing a symbol with the referenced diagram. This is controlled by the embed switch or shift click.
